Resolutions portal to close next week

By Baptist Press Staff

NASHVILLE (BP) – The time to submit a resolution to be considered for the 2024 SBC Annual Meeting is growing short.

The portal remains open through 11:59 p.m. on May 22.

“The resolutions process empowers the messengers to speak with one voice on current and enduring topics that further our mission of making disciples of all nations,” Resolutions Committee Chair Kristen Ferguson told Baptist Press.

This is the first year for a new process adopted by messengers requiring resolutions to be presented in preliminary form no later than 10 days prior to the SBC Annual Meeting. A final report will be published in the meeting’s first daily bulletin.

The Resolutions Committee is meeting next week in Oklahoma City to review the submissions.

There is also a submission path for those without internet access. “Those without access to a computer may contact the office of the vice president for communications at the SBC Executive Committee to receive a proper submittal form,” the rules state.

The 2024 SBC Annual Meeting is scheduled for June 11-12 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Indy pre-registration approaches 8,000

By Baptist Press Staff

NASHVILLE (BP) – Pre-registration continues for the 2024 SBC Annual Meeting. Around 8,000 messengers have pre-registered for the meeting, according to the SBC Executive Committee.

“Pre-registration for SBC24 continues to climb and is on pace for us to have our second-largest meeting ever in Indianapolis,” said SBC Executive Committee Vice President Jonathan Howe. “It’s exciting to see the number of Southern Baptist churches engaging in the business of the Convention continue to rise from where it was just a few short years ago.”

The International Mission Board’s Sending Celebration highlights the first day of the meeting on June 11.

This year also features a Tuesday evening session on June 11 to give messengers extra time to discuss key issues and hear task force presentations.

The vote for the SBC president is also scheduled for the Tuesday evening session. There are six known candidates to be nominated for SBC president.
